Jul. 25--FOR SOME, ROAD TO RETIREMENT IS BLOCKED: Recently, a series of retirement surveys have been released whose common message has long been trumpeted: We aren't saving enough, if we're saving at all.
But it's not that simple.
If you drill down deeper, there are issues specific to certain segments of the population that make it more difficult for them to save.
If those roadblocks were removed, people would feel more comfortable with socking away for retirement.
First, the surveys:
A study by the Retirement Security Project and the National Council of La Raza found that Hispanic participation in employer 401(k) plans is half that of the general population.
The average balance in those accounts is less than 20 percent that of the overall workforce -- $10,480 for Hispanics vs. $53,670 for the population as...
