MARK HAINES, CNBC ANCHOR: Motorola getting skinny. The world`s second- largest cell phone maker unveiling its thinnest phone ever at the company`s annual product review in Chicago. Motorola hoping the new Q and other new products can help the company build on its recent momentum, which led it to better-than-expected earnings, and share gains against rival Nokia (NOK). Motorola`s top brass meeting with analysts and investors today. Ahead of that, we`re joined by chairman and CEO Ed Zander.
HAINES: Mr. Zander, good to see you again.
ED ZANDER, CHMN. & CEO, MOTOROLA: Good morning, Mark.
HAINES: What`s next? You print the phone on a piece of paper? I mean, how thin can it get?
(LAUGHTER)
ZANDER: Pretty thin. We introduced a whole bunch of products last night. Most of the world actually uses candy bar phones, though, phones that are kind of thicker, and one-dimensional, non-fliptop. Yesterday, we introduced to the world`s thinnest, what we call, candy bar. You can see it`s less than 10 millimeters in size, and attractive. Camera, Internet access, speaker, and everything else. So this is going to be a real hit around the world, especially in the emerging markets.
HAINES: All right, this is not a flip phone, right?
ZANDER: No, this is what we call candy bar, as you can see. But candy bars are usually fat, and high in calories. This is very thin, and low carb.
HAINES: But I thought the really cool thing was to have a flip phone. I mean, you`ve made a fortune with flip phones.
