Most physicians in Massachusetts would support a single payer health care financing system over other alternatives, a new study has found.
Of the 904 physicians who responded to a survey conducted by researchers at Cambridge (Mass.) Hospital, 63.5% said that they preferred a single payer national health insurance (NHI) system, 10.7% preferred a managed care system, and 25.8% preferred a fee-for-service system. The survey was sent to 1,787 physicians, of whom 50.6% responded (Arch. Intern. Med. 164[3]:300-04, 2004).
