WASHINGTON -- A proposed classification system for self-inflicted psychodermatoses that groups diagnoses by severity and course of the behavior may be more useful to primary care physicians than existing approaches in the dermatology literature, Anna Ringwelski said at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychocutaneous Medicine of North America.
Existing classification systems for psychodermatoses tend to lump together those involving self-mutilation.
The newly proposed system, however, is limited to psychodermatoses that involve self-inflicted injury, and it provides many more details about the disorders, said Ms. Ringwelski, a medical student at Northwestern University, Chicago.
