Think of Hollywood's most incendiary on-screen seductresses, and the demurely dressed Mrs. Robinson will probably come to mind. With the iconic character played by Anne Bancroft in The Graduate as muse, Cristina Ehrlich and Estee Stanley are giving new spirit to the sixties-film-legend look of playful silk cocktail dresses and coyly pleated skirts.
"Back then the way that actresses were being styled was so simple and feminine and glamorous," says Stanley, codesigner of the line they call Miss Robinson. "Sexiness was understated but so incredibly potent," says Ehrlich. "We're hoping to bring a more suggestive energy back to Hollywood and fashion."
