The 50th Annual Convention included the presentation of a wide variety of awards to a wide variety of educators, writers, illustrators, broadcasters, journalists, and others who have made important contributions to the field of literacy education. Some receive financial grants to carry on their work; all of them are meant to be recognized by their peers. The biographies of just a few are spotlighted here.
The Association seeks your input in suggesting nominees for next year's awards. An article listing the requirements for the various awards appeared in the April/May issue of Reading Today. Entry information is also available on the IRA website at www. reading.org.
