I cannot agree more with your editorial ("Make Yourself Heard," March 2005). I once worked for a city where the leadership did not use an aquatics consultant or even have an aquatics professional on staff when they decided to build a pool. The end result was a box of water that satisfied the minimum community needs. Before the facility broke ground, the community needs had outgrown the pool. To conduct certification training, our staff had to drive to a neighboring city and use its pool because ours was built too shallow.
At a second organization with a brand new facility, the director did not want to place regulation signs at the entrance and said there was no use for them there. Only after the code requiring the sign in that location was shown to him did he believe we needed it.
