THE 2005 ALL-STAR GAME WILL be the 76th contest played between the top players in the National League and the best performers in the American League. Since 1933, when this exhibition of stars format began, there have been 172 pitchers who had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with their lone appearance in the midsummer classic. Five hurlers recalled recently their first and only taste of all-star action. Here are their stories:
