The Society of Toxicology, at its recent 35tb annual meeting, outdid itself in the number of presentations that addressed potential in vitro testing systems, particularly in the dermal area. Of special interest was a paper by L.C. Limardi, E.E. Sikorski and G.F. Gerberick of The Procter & Gamble Co., entitled "Evaluation of a Human Skin Equivalent Model as a Potential In Vitro System to Evaluate the Contact Sensitization Potential of Chemicals."

Those of us involved in the development and application of in vitro models are well aware that human skin equivalent cultures are currently being investigated as in vitro models to predict the contact sensitization potential …
