Will the recent improvements in the field of industrial weighing and formal calibration contine?

Advances in electronics and manufacturing technology, specially in recent years, have brought huge improvements in performance to weighing systems since the introduction of strain-gauge load cells in the 1960s.

In load cells, ring torsion load cells have been introduced by several manufacturers; others have such designs in the pipeline. First launched into the market by German manufacturer, Schenck, these products typically offer a low profile design and enjoy inherent benefits, such as very low sensitivity to side loads and off-centre loads, fully welded construction and high accuracy. The Revere RLC range, for example, is available in OIML class C6 and multi-interval class C3MI 7.5. A derivative of this design principle is soon to be launched by Tedea Huntleigh. Its model 220/230 bending ring design will be particularly suited to weighing high capacity process vessels up to 60,000kg.

Perhaps one of the most interesting recent products is the folded shear beam, introduced by Thames Side. Its T9200 has an integral mounting arrangement enabling, …
