A Drug-Free School Environment
Lynchburg, Va, has two high schools that serve about 2,500 students with diverse racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. About 35% of them compete in interscholastic athletics.
Several years ago, with the assistance of legal counsel and the latest court guidelines, the Lynchburg school board enacted a comprehensive drug-testing policy that currently tests every grade 9 to 12 athlete at least once a season.
The program is designed to encourage the students to perform at max capability by staying drug-free; and the school constantly checks the students to eliminate cheating and reduce time missed from class.
