Chiral Technologies, Inc. (730 Springdale Ave., Exton, PA; Tel 610/594-2100; Fax: 610/594-2325) has developed a method for separating an enantiomeric mixture of chiral amino acids into its enantiomeric parts. In the process, the chiral mixture is subjected to chromatography on a chiral polysaccharide stationary phase. The mobile phase consist of a liquid lower alkanol - a carboxylic acid soluble in the lower alkanol. The liquid phase may contain a liquid hydrocarbon as well. The method is suitable for separating chiral amino acids, including alanine, phenylalanine, serine, valine, theonine, and DOPA, among others.
