(BBI, 375 West St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379-1040; Tel: 508/580-1900, Fax: 508/580-1110) has received a six-month, $100,000 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to demonstrate its Pressure Cycling Technology (PCT) for nucleic acid extraction and purification.

By using high-pressure hydrostatic equipment to modulate the solid and liquid phases of solutions, and the binding interactions of biomolecules, PCT could simplify nucleic acid recovery for diagnostic and genomic applications through greater speed, increased accuracy, fewer handling steps, and lower cost than …
