Systems analyst will be the occupation recording the largest job growth from 1998 to 2008, with 577,000 additional positions. That's according to projections by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, published in December 1999. Three other occupations are projected to add over half a million jobs by 2008: The number of retail salespeople is projected to expand by 563,000, cashiers by 556,000, and general managers and top executives by 551,000.

Rounding out the top 10:

* truck drivers, 493,000

* office clerks, 463,000

* registered nurses, 451,000

* computer support, 439,000

* personal care and health aides, 433,000

* teacher assistants, 375,000.
