While e-commerce continues through the evolutionary period that is reshaping the health care marketplace, businesses are finding that in order to participate the nature of the e-commerce itself must be defined.

Healthcare Electronic Data Infrastructure Coalition (HEDIC), Little Rock, Ark., says that explosive growth in the electronic marketplace is making demands on those businesses that want to cash in on the power surge of the `Net. Strategies and processes need to be clearly defined and distinguished in order to capitalize on the full potential of the new technology-driven environment.

E-business and e-commerce, says HEDIC, are separate entities that must be prioritized in order to develop strategic objectives.
