I recently attended a conference of association executives at which the major topic of conversation was "speed." Although speed per se wasn't the theme of the conference, throughout most of the sessions and in many of the attendee discussions, "speed" was singled out as an important component of association management.

"Speed" was evident at many of the conference sessions, where speakers began their presentations with the following phrases or similar words, "As the pace of change is accelerating rapidly, I...." At the same time, they ended their presentations with a similar refrain, "We as association executives need to respond more quickly to today's challenges and …
