"Help?" Nothing is more pitiful than hearing Big Charlie from Queens whimpering for help.

Big Charlie and I have worked together on several different projects, and generally our ideas on application design are very similar. One big point of disagreement between us, though, is the usefulness of Visual Basic's Option Explicit statement.

Modules that have Option Explicit set in the [Declarations] section return compile errors for any variables that aren't explicitly declared. Option Explicit prevents you from declaring variables implicitly--declaring them by using them. Big Charlie likes Option Explicit, because it saves programmers from spelling errors. Transpose a couple of letters in a variable, and you'll get an error when you compile. My typing tends to be excruciatingly precise (which really bugs Big Charlie), so I find Option …
