SINCE IMPROVED productivity in the laboratory and higher efficiency in the paint plant are always welcome, particularly now that competition is so keen, the two articles making up this Focus on Additives should be read with considerable interest by chemists as well as production personnel.

Ever since associative thickeners assumed their rightful place in latex paint formulation, valuable laboratory time has usually been needed to work out costs and optimum usage. While cost effectiveness has been satisfactory, it is conceded that chemists should be able to speed things up.
