Oil sands research group formed oil companies, research groups, and universities have joined with the Canadian federal and Alberta provincial governments to form a new group called The Canadian Oilsands Network for Research & Development (CONRAD).

According to Thane Waldie, vice president of technology for Synerude Canada Ltd. and co-chairman of CONRAD, the group will collaborate on research to reduce oil sands and heavy oil recovery costs from their current average of CS 15.40/bbl.
