'Multimillion-dollar' penalty sought by agency; Chicago operation cited
St. Louis, July 22 -- The EPA is seeking "multimillion-dollar" penalties against the Sherwin-Williams Co. for alleged violations of four major environmental laws, the agency announced.
The action is part of a "crackdown" on what the EPA is calling "illegal operators" that are violating hazardous-waste laws. The agency announced 32 civil and 11 criminal cases involving alleged hazardous waste violations on July 1, and followed that with an announcement of 24 additional cases on July 16. A variety of industries are targeted.
