Dornier Medical Systems Inc., Atlanta, Ga., hopes to enliven a flat, inactive market for lithotripters by introducing a new technology called the MFL5000, which received Food & Drug Administration approval in March. The shockwave lithotripter is designed to disintegrate middle and lower urethral stones 10 millimeters in size or larger. The MFL5000 is the first shockwave lithotripter to receive FDA clearance for use in disintegrating middle and lower urethral stones.
The MFL5000 will be sold through Dornier's sales force of 11 reps, and costs $1.5 million. Dornier is targeting hospitals, out-patient clinics and companies planning to mount the MFL5000 in a mobile unit for …
