Coadings research center focuses on practical applications
After Two Years of making certain that the National Science Foundation's Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in Coatings at Eastern Michigan University is fully ready to serve the coatings industry, the center's head, Dr. Frank Jones, is making a pitch for more companies to join in supporting the center.
Dr. Jones, an internationally known polymer chemist, established the National Science Foundation program in cooperation with EMU, where the center found a hospitable home after the coatings industry helped obtain a $50,000-a-year grant from the federal govemment. The grant only partly covers the cost of the undertaking.
Dr. Jones came to Ypsilanti after a career as technical director for major resin manufacturers and as a professor in the Polymers and Coatings Department at North Dakota State University.
