Lotus Development Corp. significantly upgraded 1-2-3 for Windows last month by shipping the SmartPak add-in. The add-in counters features of Microsoft Excel 4.0 and lets users add custom interface elements that take advantage of the Microsoft Windows environment.

SmartPak features include SmartFill, which enters a series of values based on an initial entry. You can fill worksheet ranges with dates, days of the week, and other values. SmartFormat, another Excel-like feature, presents a selection of ready-made formats that you can apply to a range. The third main automation utility, Crosstabs, uses a dialog box to present alternative selections of data in a worksheet. …
