Banco Popular, R&G Federal report earnings
The $8.8 billion-asset BanPonce Corp., the holding company that owns Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Velco Leasing Co., reported last week that it earned $19.9 million or $0.66 per share during the fourth quarter of 1991, raising its total earnings for the whole year to $64.6 million or $2.15 per share. In all of 1990, by contrast, Banco Popular alone earned $63.4 million, while both Popular and BanPonce combined earned $55.75 million. Both institutions merged on Dec. 31, 1990.
