Ciba-Mova arrangement: Only the beginning?

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico -- Ciba-Geigy Corp.'s five-year contract manufacturing arrangement with Mova Pharmaceutical Corp. could be only the beginning of a more significant presence on the island by the Swiss drug maker in the future.

Last week, Ciba-Geigy and Mova Pharmaceutical, Puerto Rico's first local-capital drug firm, announced details of the arrangement. Mova will manufacture two medications -- Lopressor and Voltaren -- to be distributed by Ciba-Geigy on the U.S. mainland (see CARIBBEAN BUSINESS, Oct. 17, 1990). Because of this, Mova's work force is expected to increase by 100 to nearly 500 workers.
