Bill ties 936 benefits to drug prices

A bill proposal being studied by Sen. David Pryor (D., Ark.) seeks to eliminate Section 936 benefits to pharmaceutical firms operating in Puerto Rico when those firms raise the price of their products, sources in Washington, D.C., said last week.

Pryor, who is chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, has conducted a staff study on the drug prices and their impact on consumers. He is also said to be drafting legislation that would curtail tax benefits for pharmaceutical firms operating in Puerto Rico under Section 936 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code if those firms increase the price of their …
