P.R. exporting more products to Latin America and Caribbean
Puerto Rico's exports to Latin America and the Caribbean still lag behind Europe.
In 1990, for example, Puerto Rico exported $725 million worth of goods to countries in this hemisphere compared with a whopping $1 billion plus to the old continent.
Puerto Rico Commerce Department figures show that our leading export market is our next door neighbor, the Dominican Republic, which accounted for $388 million out of the $725 million pie.
Island companies also exported to Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, Barbados and, farther off, to Colombia and Brazil.
