La Princesa to become tourist attraction

The Old San Juan construction project to turn the former La Princesa jail property - where the Puerto Rico Tourism Company's offices are located - into a major tourism attraction in time for the 500th anniversary of the island's discovery, is scheduled for completion in early 1992.

The total cost of the Princesa project is an estimated $14 million. This includes the acquisition and renovation of La Princesa's buildings, construction of a new walkway, fountains, tropical gardens, a fishing village, additional Tourism offices and several statutes commemorating the discovery of Puerto Rico.
