Investors' interest in starting manufacturing operations in Puerto Rico has been picking up in recent weeks, according to the industrial promoters on the U.S. mainland. Puerto Rico, however, faces stiff competition from other areas, including Mexico, for investment by U.S. mainland companies.
Managers of the Puerto Rico Economic Development Administration's (Fomento) offices located on the U.S. mainland reported last week that the number of inquiries by investors interested in establishing manufacturing facilities on the island, or expanding existing ones, have increased considerably in recent weeks. …
