P.R. could get $1.7M in Even Start funds
WASHINGTON - Puerto Rico has been allocated nearly $1.7 million in fiscal 1991 under a new Even Start program designed to help parents become involved in the education of their children.
While the money has been specifically earmarked for the Commonwealth, it still must apply for the funds by March 29; otherwise, the money would be lost.
Puerto Rico's share of the program is greater than that allocated to 32 states and the District of Columbia. Nationwide, the U.S. Department of Education expects to distribute $50 million this year.
