Bankruptcies reported up 42% for January

During the month of January, the total number of bankruptcies filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico grew 42%, according to Court records. According to Litza Cardona, chief deputy clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico, 644 bankruptcies were filed in January, up from 453 cases recorded for the same period in 1990. As of Feb. 19, the total number of bankruptcies filed in 1991 reached 1,103, of which 459 were recorded in February.
