Radio Computer Gets Extreme.(Symbol Technologies Inc.)(Brief Article)
Symbol Technologies has launched a new series of vehicle radio computers, called VRC 7900. The units were specifically engineered for use within the harsh conditions of distribution centers and factories.
The VRCs use the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. Data is entered on the floor and wirelessly transmitted back to the central computer. Data flows both ways to keep employees up to date with any mandated changes. Data rates of up to 11 megabytes per second are possible, permitting the use of Sun Microsystem's Java.
