For those who attempt to use their mouse to its fullest potential, the author of this article introduces yet another possible use for the mouse wheel. The TASKWHEEL program, which is available as a free download at www.pcmag.com/utilities, allows users to access every running program's icon on the taskbar by simply placing the pointer on the taskbar and spinning the mouse wheel, which cycles through the available applications.

This article focuses on forty shareware programs in eight categories (e.g., business applications, desktop accessories, email, Internet utilities) that have been judged to be best in class. This year's overall honors went to Slaven Radic's POCO, VERSION 2.02, an email program that includes a variety of attractive, welldesigned functions, such as multiple signatures, password protection, message templates, and hotlinks.
