The need for accurate and dynamic traffic information is often cited as a reason for developmental support in the telematics industry. Even with a slowing economy, the issues of traffic congestion are still of concern for commuters.

A survey conducted for the American Automobile Association (AAA, 6940 Columbia Gateway Dr., Columbia, MD 21046; Tel: 443/656-3421, Fax: 443/656-0002) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA, 1201 New York Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20005; Website: www.apta.com) found that 95% of Americans believe that congestion during their commute has either gotten worse or stayed the same over the past 3 years.
