Nippon Steel Corporation hopes to promote the use of steel cans for beer and happoshu (a low-malt alcoholic beverage). In the beverage can market (35 billion cans), presently 55% of cans are steel but more than 99% of beer and happoshu cans are aluminum. In order to offer a greater selection of can materials, the company plans to offer steel cans that are highly recyclable, cause less load to the environment and are strong.
