Using just a magnetic microchip, Durham scientists have managed to carry out a basic computer operation. This development could represent a big step in establishing a new generation of electronics.
Magnetic methods of storing information have already been demonstrated. Now, in the Department of Physics at Durham, Dr Dan Allwood and Dr Russell Cowburn et al have taken the next key step of using a magnetic chip to perform the 'NOT' operation, which converts a 0 into a l, and a 1 into a 0.
