BOSTON -- Most of the teenagers interviewed in focus groups on STD testing said they considered urethral swabs and pelvic exams to be significant barriers that would discourage them from undergoing an STD test, Dr. Diane R. Blake reported in a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the Society for Adolescent Medicine.
All but a few of the approximately 50 adolescents interviewed said they would be much more inclined to participate in the procedure if it could be restricted to "peeing in a cup" for a urine test.
