(Barley Mill Plaza, P10, Wilmington, DE 19880-0010; Tel: 800/441-7515, Tel: 302/774-1000) has developed an improved method for detecting bacteria using a polymerase chain reaction that allows for rapid detection of a specific target bacteria in a complex sample mixture containing a variety of components, including background microorganisms and other organic contaminants such as food debris.

The target bacteria are detected by either gel electrophoresis or fluorescent means involving the use of DNA intercalating agents.
