With five strokes, Serge Normant sweeps his Mason Pearson through model/
author Sophie Dahl's bright, buttery hair, whipping it up into a Dallas-worthy froth. Just as deftly, he skims it back, slides in a handful of pins, executes one final sleight of hand and-voila!-steps back to inspect his doll-eyed subject's new, gravity-defying updo.
It's this signature magic that has made Serge Normant a Hollywood and fashion-industry legend. The drawback was that, until now, his wizardry only happened for the Sophie Dahls (and Julia Robertses, Elizabeth Hurleys, and Sarah Jessica Parkers) of the world. For civilians, he has been strictly out of reach.
This fall Normant returns to the salon floor for the first time in fifteen years. The latest maestro to join John Frieda's stable of superstars (which includes Nicola Clarke in London, Sally Hershberger in L.A., and Sharon Dorram in NYC), Normant has created a bilevel enclave of muted luxury-a cozy salon particuliere on Madison Avenue decorated with gilt-edged mirrors and Louis XV tufted settees.
