Dear Editor:
After reading the article "Motor Control Centers Tie Drives, Starters into Integral Network (November 2004 EUN)," I have the following observations and comments.
First, the picture included with the article is at best disingenuous. The picture clearly shows a wall-mounted drive, bypass, and line reactor, having little in common with a motor control center (MCC) mounted drive. An example of a variable frequency drive (VFD) in a MCC section generally looks like the MCC pictured here.
Readers should know that:
1. a drive of this size will not fit into an MCC bucket along with bypass contactors and a line reactor or
