Oct. 3--Sometimes one company's trouble is another's opportunity.

Just ask Booz Allen Hamilton, the consulting company that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc. hired earlier this year to help it in its review of its faltering cigarette business.

"That is frequently a reason for their (a consulting company's) hiring and a source of their business when there is major trouble," said Michael Lord, an associate professor of management at Wake Forest University's Babcock Graduate School of Management.
