Dec. 5--Legislation signed into law Thursday by President Bush will give millions of other Americans what Georgians already enjoy: the right to free credit reports.
But Georgians, like consumers elsewhere, will benefit from other provisions in the bill, including an easier way to request credit reports. Instead of having to contact each of three big credit reporting companies, consumers will be able to make one request to a centralized source and get reports from all three.
The law extends the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act while it amends some sections. The free credit report is one of the changes.
