Count international forwarders among those who believe the demise of the United States' domestic forwarding market is overblown.

Seattle-based Expeditors International of Washington and Panalpina are ramping up freight services in an area that some experts believe has already been plundered by the integrated express carriers, domestic U.S. capabilities that they believe will help get more international business from shippers.

"Our intention ... is to focus on the time-definite market as a natural adjunct to the international air and ocean programs we have operated for years now," Expeditors Chairman and CEO Peter Rose said in a statement.
