May improve compliance: extended-release ciprofloxacin shown safe, effective in study.(Gynecology)
A new once-daily extended-release formulation of ciprofloxacin that could enhance treatment compliance was as safe and effective as conventional twice-daily ciprofloxacin for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections and acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis in a recent study.
Of 435 patients with a clinical diagnosis of complicated UTI or acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis in the prospective, randomized, double-blind trial, 206 patients received 1,000 mg once-daily ciprofloxacin extended release, and the remaining 229 received 500 mg ciprofloxacin twice daily.
