CHICAGO _ A Chicago police detective obstructed an investigation into the execution-style murder of a drug dealer who was gunned down two weeks after the detective and two police colleagues allegedly stole more than 15 pounds of the dealer's cocaine, according to a federal indictment.
The officers allegedly took 7 kilograms of cocaine and a gun stored in the dealer's car _ which had been impounded in a police lot _ and kept 5 kilograms for themselves while planting two on the dealer's brother.
To cover up their actions, the officers reportedly falsified police reports and gave false statements, authorities said.
One of the officers, Jon Woodall, 40, is accused of obstructing the homicide investigation into the March 28, 1998, murder of the drug dealer, identified by law enforcement sources as Eloy Garza. According to the indictment, Woodall caused a witness to "withhold material information" from homicide detectives.
