CHICAGO _ Friday brought tidings that an American cable television network has proposed launching a future Tour de France from the East Coast of the United States.

Although the four-time defending champion of the event happens to be American, this still must be viewed as a proposal roughly equivalent to relocating the middle three games of the World Series to the Stade de France.

(Pause for stampede of sportswriters.)

As first reported by Bloomberg News, the people behind Outdoor Life Network, whose live broadcasts of the Tour de France have spawned a growing cult of Tourists here in the States, have floated the
