COLUMBUS, Ohio _ The window shades were drawn tight at Hamilton Central Elementary School on Wednesday, so the little people inside missed the spectacle of dogs sniffing the front grounds and federal agents combing through the grass on their hands and knees for evidence of the person who fired a shot through a classroom window.
Recess, the one time of the school day when children can run and shout outside, was indoors and will probably stay that way until a phalanx of investigators find the Interstate 270 sniper, who has killed one person and disrupted the security and driving habits of countless others in the Columbus area.
"The worst part is it could be somebody who comes in here every day. It could be someone I grew up with," said Stephanie Genheimer, who runs the counter at the convenience store down the street from the school.
