BAGHDAD, Iraq _ The real losses to Iraq's National Museum were inflicted not by looters, who stole mainly office equipment and furniture, but by knowledgeable thieves _ very likely insiders _ who knew where to look for the most valuable pieces, according to a preliminary investigation by the U.S. military.
The investigation, released Friday, also confirmed that the losses were not nearly as extensive as had initially been feared.
