FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ The first signs of Hurricanes football emerged Saturday in Fort Lauderdale with the subtlety of a Javon Nanton sack.
An enormous inflatable white University of Miami helmet served as a gateway to hundreds of fans at Broward CanesFest in the Broward County Convention Center.
Once inside, children jumped in an orange bouncehouse while their parents tested their quarterback skills nearby at a carnival-like football toss. Some purchased season tickets and others happily horded UM souvenirs.
``Please stop now!'' an agitated man implored his wife, as she giddily exceeded three figures in her quest to load up for the season. ``Enough!''
But more than anything, this day gave fans a chance to greet their personal heroes. About 65 autograph-signing players came, most of them seated at a long narrow table at one end of the ballroom.
The line snaked long, the wait seemed endless but fans stayed patient as they waited to get balls and posters and hats signed _ one item per fan.
