FORT WORTH, Texas _ Purdue likes to call itself the "Cradle of Quarterbacks." If Kyle Orton performs this season as he has in the past two, that legacy won't be tarnished.
Orton, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior from Altoona, Iowa, is the top returning quarterback in the Big Ten. Several NFL scouts project him as a first-round pick in 2005.
And if the Boilermakers figure to play in a bowl game for the eighth consecutive season, they'll need Orton to trigger an offense that should be among the nation's best.
Purdue has only three starters returning from a defense that finished 13th in the nation; the offense, though, has eight returning starters.
To prep for his senior season, Orton spent most of the spring studying film.
